The writ petitioners complain that the private respondents are obstructing water supply to their residence. It is also submitted that the private respondents have illegally constructed a grill and have put a padlock thereat preventing access to the common areas in the house.

The writ petitioners have filed a complaint before the Bidhannagar East Police Station and submit that there is inaction on their part.

This Court is of the view that the dispute between the petitioners and the private respondent is purely civil in nature. Police cannot decide the mutual rights of the petitioners and the private respondents in respect of a property.

The petitioners may seek appropriate civil remedies in this regard.

In those circumstances, the Bidhannagar East Police Station has rightly not intervened in the private civil dispute.

The writ petition is disposed of.

There will be no order as to costs.
