Gupta, Ms. Laboni Bar, Mr. Mridul Biswas ...for the Petitioner Mr. Debanjan Mukherjee ...for CESC The petitioner makes twofold submissions: first, he 04-09-2025 AKG Ct. 15 seeks transfer of the relevant electricity meter from the names of his brothers to his own; second, he prays for shifting of the said meter.

The learned advocate appearing on behalf of the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) submits that the petitioner has not submitted any application in the prescribed form to CESC, either for the change of name or for shifting of the meter.

In view of the above, there is no necessity to keep the present writ petition pending. The petitioner's request for change of name must be considered first; only thereafter can the prayer for shifting of the meter be addressed.

Accordingly, liberty is granted to the petitioner to make an online application in the prescribed form for transfer of the electricity meter within 72 hours from the date of this order.

If such application is received, CESC shall consider

the same in accordance with law, after affording an opportunity of hearing to the person(s) in whose name the meter currently stands.

This exercise shall be completed within four weeks from the date of receipt of the application.

In the event CESC accepts the petitioner's request for transfer of the meter, the petitioner shall be at liberty to apply for shifting of the meter, and such prayer shall be considered in accordance with law.

Accordingly, WPA 20627 of 2025 is disposed of. Urgent certified website copies of this order, if applied for, be made available to the parties upon compliance with the requisite formalities.
