The petitioner purchased the relevant property in the year 2022. The electricity meter, which was in the name of the erstwhile owner of the property, has not yet been transferred in the name of the petitioner.

The petitioner acknowledges that he has been availing electricity connection through this meter since his purchase of the property.

The Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) issued a notice alleging unauthorized electricity consumption and served a provisional assessment bill amounting to Rs. 5,57,923/- (Rupees five lakh fifty-seven thousand nine hundred twenty-three only) in the name of the erstwhile owner of the property.

The learned advocate appearing for CESC submits that a hearing for finalisation of the bill has been scheduled for 6th September 2025. The learned advocate for the petitioner submits that the

petitioner is willing to participate in the said hearing.

In view of the foregoing, there is no necessity to keep this writ petition pending. Accordingly, the writ petition being WPA 20728 of 2025 is disposed of with a direction upon the petitioner to attend the hearing on the scheduled date at 12 noon.

After hearing the petitioner, CESC shall pass the final order of assessment in accordance with law.

If the petitioner is aggrieved by the final order of assessment, he shall be at liberty to file a statutory appeal in terms of Section 127 of the Electricity Act, 2003.
