The Report of the answering respondents is taken on record. The Report contains a local enquiry report dated 25th September, 2022 of the Superintendent of the Hooghly District Correctional Home that the petitioner did not receive any threat from anyone in connection with an extortion or otherwise.
The petitioner, presently in the Hooghly District Correctional Home, seeks a direction on the respondents to ensure protection of the petitioner's life until the petitioner is discharged from the Correctional Home.
Learned counsel appearing for the answering respondents submits that the concerned respondents shall take the responsibility of ensuring that any threat to the petitioner's life shall immediately be looked into and dealt with. The other prayer of the petitioner's cell be changed is not being gone into since the primary
relief sought for is the alleged life threats being received by the petitioner.
W.P.A.21112 of 2022 is accordingly disposed of with a direction on the respondent nos.2 and 3 being the ADG and IG of correctional services, West Bengal Directorate of Correctional Service and the Superintendent, Hooghly District Correctional Home, Chinsurah, Hooghly respectively to enquire into any threats received by the petitioner, if any, and also to ensure that the petitioner's life is to be protected against any such threats. The authorities shall deal with the situation according to the required immediacy and effectiveness, which is to be expected from the concerned authorities.
