Petitioner nos. 2 and 3 are now working as temporary/contractual workers of respondent no. 1 as University Assistants. The petitioner no. 4 has left his job. The writ-petition, therefore, has been pressed on behalf of petitioner nos. 2 and 3 ('the petitioners', in short).

The petitioners claim that they should be provided with the pay equal to other contractual employees of the University discharging similar duties.

Mr. Majumdar, learned Advocate appearing for the petitioners, has drawn attention of this Court to page 68 of the writ-petition and page 80 of the affidavit-inopposition filed by the respondents. These pages indicate the stand of the University regarding the revision of the pay-scale of the petitioners in parity with the other contractual employees. He submits that the respondent no. 1, in principle, agreed to grant the pay scale to the petitioners at par with the other contractual employees of the University.

A report was called for from the University. The report suggests that due to pendency of this writ-petition, no steps could be taken by respondent no. 1 to grant the reliefs sought in the writ-petition.

Having regard to the aforesaid stand of the University, I do not see any justification to keep the writpetition pending. In view of the above, the writ-petition is disposed of with a direction upon respondent no. 2 to take a decision with regard to the revision of pay of the petitioners following the recommendation dated May 28, 2019, made by committee of the university constituted on April 30, 2019, within a period of one month from, the date of communication of this order.

WPA 18241 of 2012 accordingly stands disposed of.
