None appears for the Panchayat despite service. The petitioner was appointed to the post of tax collector in 2010 and his appointment was extended from time to time.

The State Government has adopted a proposal to upgrade the tax collectors to the post of Gram Panchayat Karmee in every district by a notification issued on 12th September, 2023. Pursuant thereto, the District Panchayat and Rural Development Officer, Murshidabad, by a letter issued on 20th September, 2023 requested all the Block Development Officers of the district to furnish information for the purpose of such recruitment.

The petitioner submitted a representation before the concerned authority on 12th August, 2024 seeking upgradation to the post of Gram Panchayat Karmee. The representation is yet to be considered.

Upon consideration of the submission made on behalf of the parties, the District Panchayat and Rural Development Officer, Murshidabad, being the 3rd respondent herein, is directed to consider and dispose of the representation within four weeks from the date of communication of this order upon affording reasonable opportunity of hearing to all concerned including the petitioner, in accordance with law.

The decision taken by the authority shall be communicated to the parties within a week thereof. The writ petition is disposed of.

There shall, however, be no order as to costs. Since no affidavit is invited, the allegations contained in the writ petition are deemed not to have been admitted. Urgent certified website copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties upon compliance with all requisite formalities.
