Mr. Uddipan Banerjee (in virtual mode) ... for the petitioner Mr. Partha Sarathi Basu ...for the CESC Ltd/respondent Nos.1 and 2 The petitioner has filed the present writ petition seeking for the installation of new electricity connection in the name of the petitioner at his premises located at 105/5, Karaya Road, Circus Avenue, Kolkata- 700017.

Learned counsel for the respondent nos.1 and 2 appears and states that after compliance of all the required formalities by the petitioner they went to the premises of the petitioner for the purpose of installation of new electric meter but they failed to install the new electric meter due to verbal as well as physical obstruction on the part of the private respondent nos. 3 to 8.

Being restrained by the respondent nos. 3 to 8 they are seeking for police protection in order to perform their statutory obligations.

It is hereby directed that adequate police assistance shall be provided by Karaya Police Station to respondent nos.1 and 2 in carrying out their statutory duties. If the petitioner has complied with all the prerequisite for installing new electricity connection, the respondent nos.1 and 2 shall install the new electric meter in the name of the petitioner within a period of two weeks.

With the above direction, the present writ petition is disposed of.
