The petitioner is aggrieved by the rejection of his prayer for extending the time period for joining service by the Chairman, West Bengal Central School Service Commission communicated vide memo dated September 19, 2025 (Annexure P14, p.38).

The impugned rejection clearly mentions that the petitioner did not give any clear ground for not joining school within the valid period given in the recommendation letter. The ground mentioned by the petitioner for not joining within time is 'unavoidable circumstances'. The authority found the said ground to be unclear, vague and unreasonable for extension.

The petitioner submits that as his aunt was suffering from cancer and he was engaged for her treatment, he was not in a position to join the school within the stipulated ninety-day period.

The Court cannot accept such contention of the petitioner. The petitioner ought to have joined within the stipulated time period and had there been any emergent situation that ought to have been clearly mentioned in the request seeking extension of time to join.

'Unavoidable circumstance' cannot be treated as a valid ground for extension of the validity period of the recommendation letter.

In view thereof, the Court is not inclined to entertain the writ petition.

The writ petition fails and is hereby dismissed. 8.
