1. The electricity connection of the petitioner stood disconnected on the grounds of theft of electricity. An opportunity of hearing was granted to the petitioner where he, by a letter, admitted his guilt and prayed for reduction of the amount of due intimated to him.

2. From the documents placed before this court by the learned counsel representing the licensee, it appears that the order of final assessment was passed on September 6, 2024 mentioning that Rs.7,00,426/- is due and payable.

3. The petitioner seeks reconnection of electric supply.

4. It will be open for the petitioner to seek reconnection subject to payment of necessary charges and upon compliance of all statutory formalities.

5. The West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited shall take into consideration the

submission of the petitioner that the meter in question is a defective one; and if on inspection the petitioner's allegation appears to be proper, then necessary steps for replacing the defective meter shall be taken.

6. The petitioner is also at liberty to approach the concerned respondent authority seeking installment for repayment of his dues.

7. The writ petition is thus disposed of.

8. All parties are to act on the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this court.

9. Certified copy of this order, if applied for, shall be made available to the parties.
