The petitioners before this Court are employed in different capacities, as stated in paragraph 2 of the writ petition, under various Panchayats within Purba Bardhaman district.

Mr. Ekramul Bari, learned advocate appearing for the petitioners, submits that, seeking revision of their pay scales after being permitted to re-exercise their options, the petitioners made a representation to the District Panchayat Officer, Bardhaman, by way of a letter appearing at pages 80 and 81 of the writ petition. The said representation was forwarded by the District Panchayat and Rural Development Officer, Purba Bardhaman, to the Joint Secretary, Government of West Bengal (Policy Cell), Department of Panchayat and Rural Development (Panchayat Wing), by a letter dated October 4, 2024.

Learned counsel further submits that, despite issuance of the said letter dated October 4, 2024, no steps have been taken by the Joint Secretary, Department of Panchayat and Rural Development, Government of West Bengal, respondent no. 5, to consider the representation of the petitioners. In view of the aforesaid, this Court is not inclined to keep the writ petition pending.

Accordingly, the writ petition is disposed of with a direction upon the Joint Secretary (Policy Cell), Department of Panchayat and Rural Development (Panchayat Wing), respondent no. 5, to consider the representation of the petitioners as forwarded by the District Panchayat and Rural Development Officer, Purba Bardhaman, and to pass a reasoned order in accordance with law within a period of eight weeks from the date of communication of this order. Respondent no. 5 shall afford an opportunity of hearing to a representative of the petitioners before passing the reasoned order.

Needless to clarify, this Court has not entered into the merits of the claim of the petitioners. Respondent no. 5 shall be at liberty to decide the matter strictly in accordance with law after hearing the representative of the petitioners.

Accordingly, WPA 25690 of 2025 stands disposed of.
