Heard learned counsels for the parties.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner is the General Secretary of Birbhum Truck & Tripper Operators' Welfare Association. The primary allegation of the petitioner is demand of bribe by the police personnel in lieu of release of two vehicles belonging to one of the members of the association, Imdadul Hossain. The petitioner alleges that Imdadul Hossain was compelled to pay Rs. 70,000/- to the said police personnel inside the police station and the incident was videographed. The petitioner apprehends threat to his life and liberty due to steps taken by him against the erring police officials.

Learned counsel for the State submits that pursuant to complaint lodged by the petitioner, the erring police officials have been suspended with immediate effect and departmental proceeding has been initiated against them. Several criminal cases are pending against Imdadul Hossain.

However, since the petitioner apprehends threat to his life and liberty, the police authority is directed to render necessary protection/assistance to the petitioner as and when required and also to keep strict vigil in the area so that no untoward incident occurs and there is no breach of peace and tranquility.

The writ petition is disposed of accordingly. There shall, however, be no order as to costs. Since no affidavit is invited, the allegations contained in the writ petition are deemed not to have been admitted. Urgent certified website copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties upon compliance with all requisite formalities.
