Mr. Madhusudan Sur, learned APP Mr. Dipankar Paramanick ... for the State Learned Counsel appearing for the petitioner submits he is in custody for 145 days. It is also submitted that allegation against him is with regard to preparation of fake stamps which is bailable. He prays for bail.

Learned Public Prosecutor opposes the prayer for bail and submits petitioner is a member of an organised racket who pretended to be Maoists and sent letters of extortion to local businessmen. Petitioner assisted co-accuseds by preparing fake stamps which were affixed on the said letters to create panic in the mind of the victim. He is implicated in a series of criminal cases.

We have considered the materials on record. Statements of witnesses and other documents collected in the course of investigation show petitioner actively participated in the

extortion racket by preparing fake stamps to create an impression that demands were coming from a banned organisation. Petitioner is involved in a series of criminal cases involving similar allegations.

In view of the aforesaid circumstances, we are not inclined to grant bail to the petitioner at this stage. The application for bail is, thus, rejected. (Ajay Kumar Gupta, J.) (Joymalya Bagchi, J.)
