Perused the report filed by the District Inspector of Schools (SE), South 24 Parganas signed on November 19, 2025.

It appears therefrom that the petitioner, a classIV staff (peon), retired from service on February 29, 2024 but his pension file is yet to be made ready.

Records reveal that the petitioner submitted his pension application with other papers to the school authority on January 3, 2024 and the school forwarded a soft copy of the same to the office of the DI of Schools on June 14, 2024. Certain objections were raised and the file was returned to the school on July 13, 2024. The school authority returned it to the petitioner on August 1, 2024 and the petitioner forwarded the pension file to the head of the institution on September 4, 2025. Till date the school authority did not resubmit the pension papers of the petitioner to the DI of schools.

Request was sent by the DI of Schools to submit hard copy of the pension papers of the petitioner

to the school by a communication dated November 18, 2025.

From the sequence of events narrated hereinabove, it appears that the movement of the pension file of the petitioner initiated practically after his retirement. The same ought to have been done prior to the retirement of the employee. The school ought to have been more vigilant and made the pension file of the employee ready well in advance of the date of superannuation.

As the employee has retired in February 2024 and it is high time that the terminal benefits should be released in his favour, accordingly, the concerned DI of Schools is directed to follow up the matter with the school authority for making the pension file of the petitioner ready.

The DI of Schools shall also forward all papers to the Director of Pension, Provident Fund & Group Insurance, West Bengal for issuance of PPO in favour of the petitioner.

All steps shall be taken to ensure that the terminal dues of the petitioner are released at the earliest but positively by March 31, 2026.

The writ petition stands disposed of.

All parties are to act on the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court.

Certified copy of this order, if applied for, shall be made available to the parties.
