The petitioner is aggrieved that despite complaint dated 21st September, 2022 disclosing cognizable offence, Chandannagore Police Station has not registered any FIR.

The Inspector-in-charge, Chandannagore Police Station has filed a report dated 19th January, 2023 in the form of instructions to the State Advocate. The same is taken on record.

The report indicates that Baisakhi Goswami, the maternal aunt of the stepsister, namely, Abira Pramanick, was handed over the keys of the almirah by the maid servant, namely, Mangola Das.

This Court prima facie finds that there is cognizable offence disclosed since the authority of Mangola Das to hand over the keys of an almirah in the house to Baisakhi Goswami is required to be ascertained.

The petitioner produces a list of missing ornaments from the almirah in question.

It appears that the maid-servant, Mangola Das, has said that there were no valuables in the almirah. The entire matter shall be revisited and reenquired after registration of the formal FIR by the Chandannagore Police Station. The petitioner's statement may be recorded.

It is expected that the investigation be completed as expeditiously as possible, preferably within a period of two months from date.

With the aforesaid directions, the instant writ petition shall stand disposed of.

There will be no order as to costs.
