The writ petitioners are aggrieved by a recruitment process to the post of Constable in the Kolkata Police held in the year 2012. In reply to a RTI application made in the year 2023, the petitioners were informed on 28th July, 2023 that pursuant to a meeting of the Kolkata Police Recruitment Board held on 06.01.2012, records of recruitment processes in the State for the post of Constable are maintained for six months.

Mr. Sabyasachi Catterjee, learned counsel appearing for the petitioners, would argue by a reference to the call letter received by the petitioners at page 32 of the writ petition that when the date of

interview was fixed on 08.02.2013, the records pertaining to the selection process appear to have been destroyed much before that.

It appears to this Court on a plain reading of the reply of the office of the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata dated 28th July, 2023 that the Police Recruitment Board had taken, in principle, a decision to maintain records of recruitment process for a period of six months after completion of the said process.

This by itself would not mean that the records of the recruitment process to the post of Constable held in the year 2012 were destroyed even before the process is completed.

In any event it would be inappropriate to Court for entertain a writ petition in respect of a recruitment process held in the year 2012-2013 after ten years in the year 2023.

Hence, no relief can be granted to the petitioners.

The writ petition is disposed of without any order.

A copy of the resolution of the Kolkata Police Recruitment Board dated 09.01.2012 is kept with the record.

There will be no order as to costs.

All parties are directed to act on a server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court.
