In this public interest petition the petitioner has raised a grievance that in the Village-Raipur, Paschimbar Gram Panchayat within the jurisdiction of Contai Block No.1 there is indiscriminate uprooting and falling of 100 valuable trees under the leadership of the said Gram Panchayat and other anti social elements. The details of the areas from where the trees have been cut is disclosed in paragraph 2 of the petition. Learned counsel appearing for the petitioner has submitted that the detailed representation dated 26th September, 2022 was submitted before the respondent no.3 i.e. District Magistrate, Purba Medinipur, but no action has been taken till now.

Learned counsel for the State has no objection if

the said representation is decided.

Hence, we dispose of the present petition directing the respondent no.3 to duly consider the petitioner's representation in respect of illegal cutting of trees. The District Magistrate may cause the inspection of the areas in the presence of the petitioner to ensure the truthfulness of the allegation. The District Magistrate will give an opportunity of hearing to all the concerned parties and take an appropriate decision in accordance with law. If any person is found to be responsible for illegal cutting of the trees, then the District Magistrate will ensure that the appropriate expeditious action is taken against that person.

The petitioner is directed to submit a fresh copy of the representation along with the certified copy of this order.

Let this exercise be completed within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

The petition is accordingly disposed of.
