1. Status report filed by the State be kept with the records.

2. There seems to be some controversy as regards whether the prosecution or the defence made a petition before the trial court for closure of evidence.

3. However, we need not get into such controversy. What is not in dispute is that such closure petition has been rejected by the learned trial court.

4. It is also not in dispute that 12 out of 16 charge-sheet named witnesses have already been examined. The trial is likely to conclude on an early date.

5. In view of the aforesaid, we are not inclined to entertain the petitioner's prayer for bail, at this stage.

6. Accordingly, CRM (NDPS) 1759 of 2024 is dismissed.

7. However, in view of the fact that the petitioner is in custody for more than two years, we request the learned trial court to expedite the trial to the utmost and conclude the same as early as possible, without granting unnecessary adjournment to either of the parties.
