Halder ... for the Petitioner(s) Mr. Arindam Sen Mr. Nirupam Dhali ... for the State-respondent(s) Learned advocate for the petitioner submits that the petitioner is in custody for three years and eleven months and only two witnesses have been examined completely, the examination of the three witnesses is in progress. It has further been submitted that from the year 2023, the witnesses are absenting themselves from the case in such manner that unnecessarily the case is being dragged and for no reasons, the petitioner is languishing in jail. Learned advocate prays that the petitioner may be released on bail on any stringent condition.

Learned advocate for the State has produced the case diary and refers to huge number of high quality counterfeits which were recovered and endorsed by the

expert. A sanction order has also been placed before this court.

It has also been submitted that the prosecution intends to reduce the number of witnesses and added that, in total, the prosecution intends to examine seven witnesses.

I have taken into account the gravity of the offence and I am of the view that this is not a fit case to enlarge the petitioner on bail.

Hence, the prayer for bail of the petitioner is Rejected.

However, efforts be taken by the prosecution to expedite the progress keeping in mind the period of detention of the present petitioner. The learned trial court would ensure that rest of the four witnesses is completed by the next six months.

Accordingly, CRM(M) 2590 of 2025 is dismissed. Pending application(s), if any, is also disposed of. Parties to act on a server copy of this order duly collected from the official website of the Hon'ble High Court, Calcutta.
