Ms. Soma Mishra Chatterjee .....for the petitioner Ms. Debjani Sengupta Mr. Abhijit Chatterjee ...for the University It is the case of the petitioner that she has been changed her name from Pampa Majumder to Koyel Majumder on 04.03.2017 via affidavit followed by newspaper publication in one renowned English Newspaper (Times of India) and one Bengali Newspaper (Ei Samay) on 14.03.2017 and the same had also been published in the Kolkata Gazette Notification dated 30.03.2017. Thereafter, all her documents, PAN Card, Adhar Card etc. reflected her name as Koyel Majumder. The petitioner was a student of Vidyasagar University and had also changed her name in the admit cards, registrations, mark-sheets and certificates as Koyel Majumder. Based on her law degree issued by the Vidyasagar University, she applied with the Bar Council of West Bengal for the enrollment on 20.07.2023 as an advocate. However, the officers of the Bar Council of West Bengal orally refused to accept her documents and enroll her as an advocate. Being aggrieved by the

action of the respondent No. 2, the petitioner has preferred the present writ petition.

Learned counsel for the respondent Nos. 3 and 4 appears and states that the petitioner has been granted the law degree in the name of Koyel Majumder. The respondents have been duly served and an affidavit-of-service is placed on record. This matter has been listed in this Court earlier on few occasions but there has been no appearance on behalf of the respondent/Bar Council. The petitioner has placed a supplementary affidavit wherein bringing on record the representation made to the Bar Council of West Bengal on 09.09.2023. This Court hereby directs the respondent No.

2/the Bar Council of West Bengal to enroll the name of the petitioner if she meets all the requisite qualifications and formalities within a period of four weeks. The Bar Council will be at liberty to verify all the supporting documents reflecting the name change of the petitioner and after getting satisfied, the Bar Council shall enroll the petitioner as an advocate within the above mentioned period.

With the above direction, the present writ petition is disposed of.
