Despite service respondents are not represented. The petitioner claims that her husband was an Assistant Professor at Narajole Raj College, Paschim Medinipur. He died in harness on October 28, 2016. After his demise, the petitioner made an application before the College authority for her appointment on compassionate ground on December 21, 2016.

It appears that in relation to the claim of the petitioner for her compassionate appointment, the Governing Body of the College constituted an enquiry committee. The decision to form an enquiry committee was communicated to the petitioner by the Principal of the College by his letter dated March 03, 2021.

It has been submitted by the learned advocate for the petitioner that thereafter no steps have been taken by the College for giving compassionate appointment to the petitioner.

In that view of the matter, I dispose of this writ petition with a direction upon the College to conclude the proceedings relating to compassionate appointment of the petitioner within a period of two months from the date of communication of this order. If the College authority finds the petitioner fit to be appointed under the died-in-harness category, the College shall forward the name of the petitioner along with necessary documents before the Director of Public Instruction, Government of West Bengal immediately for approval.

The Director of Public Instruction shall take a decision with regard to the appointment of the petitioner within a period of one month thereafter. With the aforesaid directions, WPA 28695 of 2022 is disposed of.

Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties upon compliance with the requisite formalities.
