An advertisement was published by Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology notifying some vacancies, inter alia, for the post of Assistant Professor (unreserved) in English. Learned advocate for the petitioner submits that the petitioner applied for the said post, but he was not selected. He has a master's degree in "English Language Teaching." He further submits that one Mrs.

Chhandita Das, who has been selected for the said post, possesses a master's degree in English Literature. The selection committee ought not to have appointed her to the relevant post since she lacked the requisite qualification.

Mrs. Chhandita Das has not been made a party to this writ petition.

I do not find any substance in the stand of the petitioner. The relevant advertisement makes it clear that no post was advertised for "English Language Teaching". There was a single vacancy of Assistant Professor in English. From the report filed by respondent no.9, it appears that the petitioner was allowed to participate in the selection process. The name of the petitioner was shortlisted for interview, but he was not ultimately selected. Mrs. Chhandita Das was selected for the post based on her academic records and performance in the interview.

I am of the view that the stand of the petitioner that he was the only candidate eligible to be appointed since he had a postgraduate degree in "English Language Teaching" is baseless. The selected candidate was duly qualified for the post in question. Therefore, I find no merit in the writ petition. Accordingly, WPA 27567 of 2023 is dismissed.
