In connection with the Lalgola Padma Fishermens Cooperative Society Limited a writ petition was filed being WPA 24013 of 2023 (Taraknath Haldar & Ors. v . The State of West Bengal & Ors.) praying for a direction for concluding the election of the Society. The Court vide order dated October 13, 2023 passed direction to conclude the election positively within six months. The time period for conclusion of the election is not yet over.

The grievance of the present petitioners being the members of the said Cooperative Society is that there are several discrepancies in the voters' list which are required to be rectified. In the absence of a regular Board the same may not be possible which will in turn delay the election.

Learned advocate representing the Cooperative Election Commission submits that as the Court has already fixed a time limit for conducting the election, all necessary steps including rectification of the voters' list shall be taken care of by the Election Commission. In view of the aforesaid submission, no further order is required to be passed in the instant writ petition. The Election Commission shall take all necessary steps in terms of the order dated October 13, 2023.

The writ petition stands disposed of.
