Jnanendra Nath Manna v. State Of West Bengal & ANR
ss/jks 31.01.2022 WPA 30607 of 2017 Jnanendra Nath Manna Vs.
The State of West Bengal & Anr.
(Through Video Conference) This petition is pending since 2017 and no one is present today on behalf of the petitioner.
Having examined the record, we have noticed that the prayer in the petition is to direct the respondent authorities to take action to include a chapter on Nandigram movement in the History syllabus of Secondary Education.
The grievance of the petitioner is that the respondents have included only the chapter of Singur in the History syllabus of Secondary Education without including the chapter relating to historical freedom and land movement of Nandigram.
We are primarily of the view that it is for the body/ authority responsible for preparing the syllabus of the Secondary Education who has to consider and take an appropriate decision to include or exclude any chapter in the syllabus and for such an issue ordinarily PIL cannot be maintained.
Hence, we dismiss the present petition, however, with liberty to the petitioner to approach the concerned authority along with his suggestions and if such
suggestions are made, the authority will duly consider it in accordance with law.
