The father of the petitioner was a Gram Panchayat Karmi who died-in-harness on July 19, 2023.

Application was filed by the petitioner for being appointed on compassionate ground in the died-inharness category on July 26, 2023. The same is yet to be disposed of.

Learned advocate representing the State respondents relies upon the notification published by the Panchayat & Rural Development Department, PRI Wing dated September 29, 2014 and submits that appointment on compassionate ground under the Panchayati Raj Bodies are covered by the said notification.

The respondent authorities ought to keep in mind that appointment on compassionate basis ought to be dealt with in an urgent manner so that the heirs of the deceased employee are not forced into penury or starvation.

It appears that the prayer of the petitioner seeking appointment on compassionate ground is pending

consideration for a considerable period of time.

Accordingly, the concerned Block Development Officer is directed to take steps pursuant to the application made by the petitioner in accordance with law at the earliest but positively within a period of eight weeks from the date of communication of this order.

The decision in response to the application made by the petitioner shall be intimated immediately after the decision is taken.

Learned advocate for the petitioner is directed to forward copy of all the documents in support of the claim of the petitioner to the Block Development Officer at the time of communicating the order of this Court. The writ petition stands disposed of.

Urgent certified photocopy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties expeditiously on compliance of usual legal formalities.
