Learned advocate for the petitioners submits that the petitioners are in custody since 2nd September 2022 and not a single witness has been examined. He further submits that a direction be given for expeditious trial.

Mr. Banerjee, learned Public Prosecutor-in-charge opposes the prayer for bail.

On going through the case diary and the facts and circumstances of the case it reveals that the contraband substance is of commercial quantity and ten witnesses are proposed to be examined and the next date for evidence will commence from 15th February 2024.

Under such circumstances, we are not inclined to grant bail to the petitioners.

Accordingly, prayer for bail is rejected.

Trial court is requested to conclude the trial as expeditiously as possible preferably within six months from the next date fixed for recording evidence.
