The grievance of the petitioners is directed against the refusal of the State respondents to conduct a joint field verification for payment of compensation to the petitioners.

It is alleged on behalf of the petitioners that the subject premises has been acquired by the State respondents and no compensation has been paid to the petitioners.

Mr. De appearing for the State respondents relies on a notice dated 15th March, 2021 issued by the Executive Engineer, Kakdwip Irrigation Division and submits that steps are being taken by the State respondents to conduct a joint field enquiry in respect of the subject premises.

In view of the submissions made on behalf of the State respondents, I am of the view that no purpose would be served in keeping this writ petition alive. WPA 8670 of 2020 is disposed of by directing the State respondents to complete the joint field enquiry in

respect of the subject premises in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible.

It is made clear that I have not gone into the merits of the case of the petitioners and the respondent no.8 is directed to act in accordance with law without being influenced by any observation made in this order.
