CRM 8797 of 2020 (Through Video Conference) In Re: - An application for bail under Section 439 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in connection with Islampur P.S. Case No.126 of 2018 dated 29.03.2018 under Section 22C of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

And In the matter of: Meraj Sk @ Merajul Sk .... Petitioner Mr. Jisan Iqubal Hossain ... For the Petitioner Mr. S.S. Imam Mr. Subrata Roy ... For the State The petitioner undertakes to appropriately stamp the petition as per the Rules within one week of resumption of normal functioning of the court. The petition is taken up through video conference on the basis of such undertaking.

The petitioner claims to be in custody for more than 220 days. This is a case of commercial quantity of contraband being allegedly recovered from the person of the petitioner. The prayer for bail cannot be entertained in view of the statutory bar.

It is also not possible, in the present situation, to issue directions for the expeditious completion of the trial. However, the trial should be taken up within six months of normal court functioning resuming.

CRM 8797 of 2020 is disposed of.
