Saikat Chatterjee, learned Advocate, appears on behalf of the petitioner. Despite service there is no representation on behalf of the respondents. The affidavit of service filed in the Court today is kept with the record.

The grievance of the petitioner in this writ petition is that he has a licensed firearm. He was asked to surrender his firearm in view of the ongoing State Assembly Election, 2021 by the respondents. He had duly surrendered his firearm before the District Magistrate, North 24-Parganas.

The petitioner submits that the license with regard to the firearm was in force till 31st December 2020 and for renewal of the same, he made a prayer before the District Magistrate, North 24-Parganas, but the said prayer had not been considered by the said respondent.

The petitioner was a valid license holder with regard to his firearm and the respondents should consider the prayer for extension of tenure of the arms license in accordance with law.

The writ petition is disposed of with a direction upon the District Magistrate, North 24-Parganas, the respondent no. 4, to consider the prayer for extension of the tenure of arms license of the petitioner within a

period of six weeks from date and after such decision is made, the same should be communicated to the petitioner within a week therefrom.

There shall, however, be no order as to costs. ab (Kausik Chanda, J.)
