1. The petitioner prays for compassionate appointment. His father was a primary school teacher, who expired on 8th October, 2014. Application was made by the petitioner praying for compassionate appointment on 16th February, 2016.

The petitioner thereafter enhanced his educational qualification and made application before the authority on 6th February, 2024 for recording his subsequent educational qualification and at the same time renewed his prayer for consideration of his application for grant of compassionate appointment.

There has been no response to the same.

3. None represents the District Primary School Council, Jalpaiguri.

4. The very purpose for providing compassionate appointment is for helping the family of the deceased employee to tide over the immediate financial crisis caused on the death of the bread winner. Appointment

on compassionate ground cannot be claimed as a matter of right and the same cannot be treated as a source of employment. This is an exception to the regular process for providing employment.

5. It appears that in the instant case, the death of the teacher took place in October, 2014. Though application was made within the prescribed time period but the petitioner never proceeded with his claim for obtaining appointment on compassionate ground.

6. The instant writ petition has been filed more than ten years after the death of the teacher. At such a distant point of time, no compassion can be shown to the applicant.

7. The writ petition fails and is hereby dismissed.

8. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties upon compliance of all requisite formalities.
