The petitioner is in occupation of a vested land. She seeks Long Term Settlement of 0.66 acres. The proposal of the petitioner was considered by the authority and the amount to be paid on account of salami and rent as per the land allotment policy of the State was prepared by the District Magistrate, Jalpaiguri and forwarded to the Principal Secretary, Government of West Bengal with a communication marked to the petitioner in September, 2023.

Learned advocate for the petitioner submits that since thereafter no steps have been taken by the authority to intimate the quantified amount of salami and rent to be paid and the account where the amount is to be deposited by the petitioner.

The District Magistrate, Jalpaiguri is directed to intimate the follow up steps required to be taken by the petitioner for obtaining the Long Term Settlement of the subject land. Such intimation shall be forwarded to the petitioner at the earliest but positively within a period of four weeks from the date of communication of this order.

The petitioner shall be obliged to make the necessary payment within the time stipulated by the authority.

Learned advocate for the State respondents submits, upon instruction that, no coercive step will be taken by the respondent authorities till 30th September, 2024.

The writ petition stands disposed of.

Instruction forwarded by the District Land and Land Reforms Officer, Jalpaiguri dated 23rd September, 2024 be retained with the record.

Urgent certified photocopy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties upon compliance of usual legal formalities.
