The Court:- The petitioner is a student of M.Sc. in Mathematics in Presidency University. He prays for a direction upon the University to allow him to re-appear in the backlog papers, both internal and external examination, for the completion of the course. As per UGC Regulations a candidate may be given two more years for completion of a course.

The learned Advocate representing Presidency University submits that an application is to be forwarded to the Vice Chancellor of Presidency University and the same will be considered in accordance with the Regulations.

In view of the above, the instant writ petition is disposed of by granting liberty to the petitioner to approach the Vice Chancellor of Presidency University, being respondent no.2 herein, with his prayer for appearing in the backlog papers.

In the event such an application is made within a week, the same shall be considered by the aforesaid respondent strictly in accordance with prevailing Regulations at the earliest, but positively within four weeks from the date of receipt of the application made by the petitioner. The said respondent shall communicate the reasoned order to the petitioner immediately thereafter.

WPO No. 729 of 2021 stands disposed of.

Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, shall be given to the parties as expeditiously as possible on compliance of all necessary formalities.
