The petitioners are aggrieved by the refusal on the part of the Life Insurance Corporation of India in honouring a Master Policy no. GG(CA)- 23271 upon pre-mature surrender. It is submitted that the said policy was procured by the writ petitioners/employer for the benefit of its workmen. The learned Counsel for the insurance company, Mr. Dilip Kundu, in his usual fairness, has submitted that the insurance company has otherwise no objection to honour its commitment under the policy. It is submitted that the grantee under the policy is a Trust and the application for encashment and closure must initially be made to such Trust/Grantee. Certain other documents required from the Trust/Grantee are also specified in a communication dated 8th December, 2021, issued by the Manager (P & GS), KMDO-1, LICI, Kolkata -72.

In that view of the matter, the Trust/Grantee may make appropriate application complying with the requirements stipulated in the said communication dated 8th December, 2021. Upon receipt of the said application and documents and upon verification thereof, the LICI shall release the payment to the Trust/Grantee expeditiously within a period of two months.

The communication dated 8th December, 2021 may be kept with the record.

W.P.O. No. 1238 of 2021 is disposed of.

There will be no order as to costs.
