The Court:- The present application has been filed by the petitioner under Section 29A of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, seeking extension of the mandate of the arbitral tribunal for conclusion of the arbitral proceedings and publication of the arbitral award. Learned counsel for the petitioner states that the learned sole arbitrator was appointed by this Court vide order dated 17.05.2023 to adjudicate the disputes between the parties.
The pleadings were completed on 12.10.2023. With the consent of the parties, the mandate of the arbitral tribunal was thereafter extended till
21.03.2025. Later, vide order dated 03.03.2025, this Court further extended the mandate of the arbitral tribunal for eight months till 20.11.2025. Learned counsel for the respondent states that the respondent has no objection to the said extension of the mandate of the arbitral tribunal. Learned counsel for the petitioner further submits that the final arguments have been concluded on 21.09.2025 and the matter is presently at the stage for publication of the award.
Upon consideration of the entire record, this Court is satisfied that there has been no undue and unwarranted delay on the part of the learned sole arbitrator to conduct the proceedings. Having regard to the final stage of the proceeding and in the interest of justice, the mandate of the learned sole arbitrator is extended for a further period of four months from today. The learned sole arbitrator is requested to make all reasonable endeavours to conclude the proceedings and publish the award within the extended time period.
