The Court: The petitioner has preferred the present application under section 29A of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, seeking extension of the mandate of the arbitral tribunal for conclusion of the arbitral proceedings and for publication of the award. Learned senior counsel for the petitioner submits that the arbitral tribunal was constituted and the first sitting was held on 10.07.2019. Pleadings were completed on 01.09.2021. Thereafter, this Court vide order dated 10.08.2023, 24.04.2024 and 05.03.2025 has extended the mandate of the arbitral tribunal by six months on first two occasions and by eight months on the last occasion respectively. The mandate of the tribunal had expired on 4th November, 2025.

Learned counsel for the respondent states that he has no objection to the present application being allowed.

Learned counsel for the petitioner states that the matter is presently at the stage of trial and the respondent's evidence is going on. The arbitrator has conducted more than 30 hearings. Upon consideration of the entire record, this Court is satisfied that there has been no undue or unwarranted delay on the part of the learned sole arbitrator to conduct the proceedings and that more than 30 sittings have been conducted by the learned arbitrator. Accordingly, the mandate of the learned sole arbitrator is extended for a further period of six months.

Learned sole arbitrator is requested to make all reasonable endeavours to complete the arbitral proceedings and publish the award within the extended period.

With the above directions, the present application being AP/200/2025 is disposed of.
