The Court: The petitioner served as a contractor in a particular transaction of the State Transport Department. The petitioner now seeks refund of the security deposit furnished by the petitioner along with interest. The fact that the petitioner completed the work within the defect liability period is admitted.

Learned counsel appearing for the State respondent does not dispute the statements made in the writ petition.

WPO/2420/2022 is, accordingly, disposed of with a direction on the respondent being the West Bengal State Transport Corporation to pay the amount of Rs.77,27,888/- to the petitioner within eight weeks, as prayed for. The amount shall carry interest at the rate of 6% per annum from the

date on which the individual bills fell due to the date of payment by the State respondent to the petitioner.
