The Court: The grievance of the petitioners is that the petitioners are money exchangers. The petitioners applied for a renewal of their licence in that regard. Initially, the licence was returned by the respondent authorities on the premise that certain rectifications were required. The petitioners, thereafter, corrected the application and re-filed it.

However, the respondents are sitting tight over the matter despite the date of expiry of the current licence of the petitioners being December 31, 2023. Although learned counsel for the respondents have certain contentions on merits, it would be premature to decide the said issues at this juncture, since the

respondent authorities have not yet taken a call on the renewal application of the petitioners as yet.

The purpose of justice would be sub-served in the event the respondents decide on the application for renewal made by the petitioners within a week from date.

Accordingly, WPO/1882/2023 is disposed of by directing the respondents to decide the application for renewal filed by the petitioners within December 29, 2023.

It is made clear that in the event the petitioners are aggrieved with the decision taken on the said application by the respondents, it will be open to the petitioners to challenge the same in due process of law. No order as to costs.
