Smti.Sohini Roy v. The Lt.Governor And ORS.
IN THE HIGH COURT AT CALCUTTA
[ CIRCUIT BENCH AT PORT BLAIR ] *** WPA/279/2025 Smti. Sohini Roy Vs.
The Lt. Governor and Ors.
Mr. S.K Golder ... for the petitioner Ms. Babita Das ... for the respondents July 01, 2025 [AKB] Item No.9 Mr. Golder, learned advocate appearing for the petitioner submits that the petitioner being the practicing lawyer of this bar has applied for appointment of the Notary Public in terms of the advertisement issued by the administration for appointment of Notary Public in the District of Nicobar. As the petitioner is eligible for being appointed as a Notary Public, the Administration has issued notice to the petitioner for personal interview which was scheduled to be held on 05.09.2024. It is submitted that on the very same day it was informed to the petitioner that interview is postponed and the next date will be informed. The petitioner submits that till date no intimation has been given whether any interview will be conducted or not.
Ms. Babita Das, learned Government Pleader appearing for the Administration submits that the Administration has received an objection from the Tribal Council for appointment of the Notary Public in the
District of Nicobar and as such the respondent authorities have postponed the interview.
Heard the learned counsel for the respective parties. Perused the materials on record.
This Court find that the Administration has published the notice for appointment of Notary Public in the District of Nicobar in the month of February, 2024 and on receipt of the application of the petitioner, the notice of interview was also issued in the month of August, 2024 by fixing the date of interview on 05.09.2024 at 11:00 AM. But on the date of interview it was informed to the petitioner that interview is postponed and the next date of interview will be informed, but till date no date has been informed.
Considering the above this Court finds that no purpose will be served by keeping this application pending. Thus this writ application is disposed of by directing the respondent authorities particularly the respondent No. 2 to complete the process for appointment of Notary Public in terms of the vacancy notice issued on 17.02.2024 within a period of six weeks from the date of communication of this order.
Accordingly, WPA/279/2025 is disposed of.
