The petitioner made an application on 18th July, 2023 before the Assistant Engineer, Electricity Department, Port Blair, South Andaman for supply of a new electric meter connection for domestic use.

As the said application was not considered, the petitioner filed a writ petition before this Court, which was registered as WPA/340/2025. The said writ petition was disposed of on 2nd August, 2025 directing the respondent to consider and dispose of the application submitted by the writ petitioner on 18th July, 2023 within two weeks from the date of communication of the said order. It was also directed that the decision taken by the respondents shall be communicated to the petitioner thereafter. Consequently, the writ petitioner again made a fresh application for electricity connection on 21st August, 2025. Thereafter, the concerned authority considered the application

dated 21st August, 2025 and rejected the same on 1st September, 2025. Being aggrieved, the instant writ petition has been filed.

This Court has considered the rejection of the application for electric meter connection by the respondent on 1st September, 2025. Perusal of the same would indicate that the rejection is cryptic in nature and without assigning any cogent reasons.

In such circumstances, this Court is unable to accept the rejection made by the respondents with regard to the application for fresh electric connection made by the petitioner. Accordingly, the rejection of the order dated 1st September 2025 is set aside and quashed and the same is remanded back to the respondent no.3, the Assistant Engineer, Shaheed-Swaraj Sub Division, Electricity Department, Sri Vijaya Puram to have a fresh consideration of the application dated 21st August 2025 made by the petitioner. Let such consideration be done within a period of three weeks, in accordance with law, from the date of receipt of certified true copy of this order. The outcome of such consideration shall also be communicated to the petitioner forthwith.

With the above observations and directions, the writ petition is disposed of.
