IN THE HIGH COURT AT CALCUTTA

[ CIRCUIT BENCH AT PORT BLAIR ] *** WPA/1046/2023 IA No.CAN/1/2024 Pushpa Biswas Vs The Lieutenant Governor and others Mr. K.Vijay Kumar ... for the petitioner Mr. V.D.Sivabalan ... for the respondents August 7, 2024 [SR] Item No.39 Re: CAN/1/2024 (The Lt.Governor and others vs. Pushpa Biswas) - Extension of time.

WPA/1046/2023 was disposed of by a learned Judge of this Court by an order dated January 09, 2024 by directing the Deputy Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman District, Mayabunder to treat the writ petition as a representation of the writ petitioner and dispose of the same in accordance with law upon hearing the petitioner as also the concerned officer in the Administration, by passing a reasoned order. It was directed that the entire exercise shall be completed within a period of six months from the date of communication of that order.

The present application has been taken out for extension of time to complete the aforesaid exercise. Learned advocate for the applicants says that thousands of representations have to be dealt with. The time to complete the exercise be extended by one year from date.

Learned advocate for the writ petitioners opposes such long extension and, in my opinion, justifiably so. However, considering that a large number of representations have to be disposed of, I extend the time for completion of such exercise in terms of the order dated January 09, 2024 by six months from date. CAN/1/2024 is disposed of.
