In person Mr. Shatadru Chakraborty ... for the respondents January 9, 2024 [SR] Item No.38 The petitioner has approached this Court with a prayer that the Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands be directed to ensure continuous police patrolling and also to take care of illegal parking on the roads. The petitioner is a resident of Port Blair.

It appears to this Court that the representation of the petitioner does not contain details as to what were the deficiencies in service by the police authoriteis.

The representation was filed sometime in November, 2023. Moreover, the petitioner always had the liberty to approach the local police station, if there were incidents relating to commission of criminal offence or law and order problems had cropped up, within Aberdeen village.

However, this Court is of the view that periodic police patrolling in any area, is the duty of the police authorities and the police authorities are required to be vigilant. It is expected that the police authority would do their job, irrespective of any mandatory direction. Regular police patrolling and smooth vehicular transit should be ensured uniformly.

As no affidavits have been called for, the allegations are deemed to be denied.

Mr. Chakraborty's contentions that a similar writ petition was dismissed earlier, is not relevant in this case. The police authorities are duty bound to ensure the safety and security of the people.

Accordingly the writ petitioner is disposed of. ( Shampa Sarkar, J. )
