This petition has been filed alleging willful disobedience of the order dated 20.08.2022 passed in Writ Petition No. 7689 of 2016 and the batch of connected petitions.

When the matter is called up today, Mr. Tapkir, learned counsel for the Petitioner submits that insofar as the principal amount is concerned, the Respondents have already handed over the cheque for the amount payable to the Petitioner, the receipt whereof is duly acknowledged by the learned Counsel for the Petitioner. The learned Counsel, however, submits that since the Petitioner is a retired employee, he is entitled to receive interest on the unpaid amount due to the delay in making payment. 24 November, 2025

The Petitioners' counsel may be justified in making such submissions. However, we find that the order of the Court does not provide for payment of interest. Therefore, no such relief can be granted in this petition. Such a plea, in our view, can be entertained only if appropriate petition is filed and not in this Contempt Petition.

As such, by granting liberty to the Petitioners to file appropriate petition, if so advised, claiming payment of interest, this contempt petition stands disposed of.
