Heard Mr. Jaidev, learned counsel representing the petitioner and Ms. Dhond, learned counsel representing the respondent-Corporation.

Grievance raised in this Public Interest Litigation petition is by a senior citizen. It is in relation to absence of toilet facility at Bandra (East) Local Railway Station. 3.

Learned counsel for the petitioner has stated that at Bandra (East) Local Railway Station prior to opening of small medical clinic, toilet was in existence, however, the same was demolished, as a result of which no toilet facility is available at Bandra (East) Local Railway Station which causes great difficulties to the commuters.

In respect of the aforesaid grievance, a representation was made by the petitioner on 20th February, 2024 to the Municipal Commissioner. Trailing emails, which have been enclosed at page 24 of the PIL petition, reveal that the said representation was processed and was even processed further, however, concrete steps for providing the facility of toilet are yet to be taken.

Ms.

Dhond, learned counsel representing the Corporation, however, states that the facility of toilet will need the cooperation of the railway authorities as also the authorities of MMRDA.

In the light of the facts of the present case, we dispose of this PIL petition with a direction to the appropriate authority in the Municipal Corporation to take adequate and prompt steps for providing the facility of a toilet at Bandra (East) Local Railway Station in cooperation with the authorities of the Railway and MMRDA. The railway authorities as also the authorities of MMRDA are also expected to extend their fullest cooperation to the authorities of the Corporation. 7.

We further provide that if cooperation of any nongovernmental organization is felt needed, the same shall also be taken so that the facility of toilet is provided and commuters' grievances are redressed.
