In this Public Interest Litigation, the petitioner has aggrieved by the inaction on the party of the Government of Maharashtra in not directing installation of Vehicle Location Tracking Device and Emergency Button in old and existing public vehicles.

Learned Government Pleader, on instructions, submits that the Transport Department has instituted a rigorous compliance mechanism whereby Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors work in shifts to ensure 24/7 monitoring Command and Control Centre. It is further stated that records are meticulously maintained for accountability purposes. It is also submitted that the proposal for providing the installation of

8-PIL-44-2025.doc the vehicle tracking system in public service vehicles registered prior to 31st December, 2018 is pending consideration of the State Government and a suitable decision in this regard would be taken.

In view of the aforesaid submission made by the learned Government Pleader and in view of the stand taken in the affidavit-in-reply, we deem it appropriate to direct the State Government to finalize the draft rules for installation of vehicle tracking system in public service vehicles registered prior to 31st December, 2018 within a period of three months from today.

Accordingly, the PIL is disposed of.
