The petitioner, who is an arms licence holder since 1982, has approached this Court seeking a direction to the respondents to decide his renewal application for the aforesaid arms licence.

The petitioner was granted the licence in the year 1982 and has been regularly renewing the same. The last such renewal was for the period from 1st January, 2023 to 31st December, 2023.

As the period of his licence was due to expire on 31st December, 2023, the petitioner applied for renewal of the said licence on 22nd December, 2023. The application for renewal is at record page No.20 (Annexure-B). 5.
Respondent No.1, however, has not decided the aforesaid application despite the passage of almost two years. The record
109.WP.1735.2026 2/2 reveals that hearing was granted to the petitioner by respondent No.1 pursuant to the notice dated 31st October, 2025. 6.
Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that even after the said hearing, the application has not yet been decided. 7.
In view of the above, we dispose of the present writ petition with a direction to respondent No.1 to decide the application dated 22nd December, 2023 submitted by the petitioner for renewal of his arms licence within a stipulated period of four weeks from the date of receipt of this order. 8.
The petitioner undertakes to produce a copy of this order before respondent No.1 within one week from today. 9.
The decision taken thereupon shall be communicated to the petitioner within a period of two weeks from the date of such decision.
