This petition seeks a writ of mandamus directing the Directorate of Panchayats to hold elections for the posts of Deputy Sarpanch and Sarpanch of the Village Panchayat of Sancoale, which fell vacant on 13/04/2026 upon the incumbents of the said posts being subjected to a no-confidence motion. Pursuant to the passing of the no-confidence motion, in terms of Section 51 of the Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, elections to the aforesaid two posts were required to be held within 60 days from the date on which the posts fell vacant.

901 WP 370 2026 appearing for the Directorate of Panchayats, has placed on record an order dated 04/05/2026, by which elections to the aforesaid two posts have now been scheduled for 12/05/2026. In view of the above, the reliefs sought in the petition stand worked out. Accordingly, the petition stands disposed of.
3. The Directorate of Panchayats may proceed to conduct the elections and ensure that the election process for the aforesaid two posts is completed on 12/05/2026, as scheduled. AMIT S. JAMSANDEKAR, J.
