We have considered the extensive submissions of the learned Addl. GP and the learned Advocate for the original Petitioners, and have perused our order dated 23rd December, 2025, passed in Writ Petition No.17518 of 2025 and the group of Petitions (Lions Club Deaf and Dumb School Trust and Ors. v/s. The State of Maharashtra and Ors.).

The minimum that we had expected, and for which we had issued a direction, was that the regular monthly salaries of the teachers working in special schools should be paid for the month of December, 2025, payable in January, 2026 and onwards. Today, we are on 30th March, 2026. Salaries of several teachers have not been paid. By this Interim Application, an extension of six months is sought.

The learned Advocate Dr. Warunjikar submits that these teachers are without salaries for more than one year. They earn meager salaries. They hardly have any reserves or savings. Having been without salary for a year, the time has come for these teachers to beg.

We do not require any discussions for assessing the plight of these teachers. The Government must spend more time on such matters and ensure that the directions issued by the Court are complied with on priority. As it is, we have been liberal in granting time to the Government to pay their arrears in 180 days, i.e., upto 21st June, 2026. Non-payment of salary would make it difficult for these teachers and their families to keep their mind, body and soul together.

As it is, our direction that the salaries should be paid in January, 2026 has been disobeyed for three months. We do not find that the exercise to enter the names of the teachers in the Sevaarth ID, is so difficult that their salaries are not paid until March, 2026. 6.
As such, by way of a last chance and with a caution that we would not extend the time by even one day, we direct that the
teachers who are yet to be paid their salaries, shall be paid their salaries for the month of April, 2026 in the first week of May, 2026, and all arrears, including January, February and March, 2026, shall be paid, as directed earlier by this Court, on or before 21st June, 2026.

With the above directions, this Interim Application is disposed off.
